Summer in Saint Lucia: A Vibrant Celebration of Culture and Joy
In the heart of the Caribbean, Saint Lucia experiences one of nature’s rare blessings – year-round summer. Especially in July, is when the island truly comes alive with its much-anticipated Carnival season, a vibrant celebration of culture, music and community.
Saint Lucia’s Carnival is a dazzling spectacle, a kaleidoscope of colorful feathers, sparkling gems, the sounds of sweet steel pan music, the social commentary of the witty calypso songs, all set against an atmosphere of pure euphoria.
As the season unfolds, the island’s streets and communities burst into life as locals proudly showcase Saint Lucian culture and energy in full display. The curious visitors have a wealth of options to immerse themselves in. They can join the various themed events hosted by the different Carnival bands or private entities or experience the glamor of the National Carnival Queen show competition, a highlight that celebrates beauty, talent and cultural pride. For those seeking creativity at its finest, the National King and Queen of the Band competition offers a display of creativity from our local artisans.
It culminates with the two-day Parade of the Bands where men and women, called revelers, adorned in vibrant costumes dance in the streets to pulsating soca music embodying the spirit of joy, freedom, and celebration. In the words of one of Saint Lucia’s soca artists Sly’s hit song Break Away, “When we crowd up in the city, vibing in unity, everybody wants to be part.”
Saint Lucia during the summer is more than a season, it is an unforgettable experience.
