Saint Lucia is the only Caribbean island that is named after a woman, Saint Lucy, who is also the patron Saint of the island. National Day is celebrated on the Feast Day of Saint Lucy. Celebrations begin the night before on December 12th with the Parade of Lanterns in Castries which signifies the Festival of Lights and Renewal.
